Flight Look to New Heights with 'Pale Blue Dot' Uniform
With the new season under way, the Season 3 runners-up Flight have unveiled a new alternate uniform, dubbed the 'Pale Blue Dots', an homage to the iconic image taken in 1990.
The image is a photograph of mother Earth from a record distance taken by the Voyager 1 space probe at the request of Carl Sagan after the craft had completed its mission and was leaving the Solar System.
Ill Jackson spoke at the unveiling, noting the power that a uniform can have on the court.
"When there's meaning and purpose behind a uniform and a player puts it on, it can make all the difference in performance. There are values literally woven into the fabric of the team when they have it on, and the fans and coaching staff can get that much more behind the team and help push the players to new levels.
"With these new threads, I'm really excited going forward because of what they mean and how they tie into the Flight organization. I worked directly with our marketing and design teams and I feel my personal affinity for spaceflight and exploration and its possibilities are ingrained in the uniform. I hope to continue imprinting certain values on the team in the exact same way, taking our play to the next level and hopefully we can fill up that trophy case."
Asked about how often fans should expect to see the uniform given how little the 'Sky Uniform' was seen in its inaugural season last year (twice, including once in the playoffs), Jackson expressed hope.
"Hopefully we see them early and often. I wish I had more control over those decisions but I would love to see them mixed in a bit more. I think it excites the fans and players when we go outside the norm. It's just dope. Look good, feel good, feel good, play good."
Time will tell what story the 'Pale Blue Dots' will be written with. We can only hope the team going forward represents what the image itself does: completing (championship) missions and ascending to record heights, all while giving a new perspective on what's possible.
