Mauricio Wolcott went down early with a knee injury after scoring 17 points in 17 minutes of play. Kodie Cabotage would pace the team with 25 points and 11 boards in the win.

  • The 7-1 Showdown: Paladins Square Off vs Ice

The Paladins and Ice come in as the 1st and 2nd ranked teams in the league respectively, both sporting a 7-1 record, with the Ice losing for the first time last outing to the Rhinos after the franchise best 7-0 start to the season. The Paladins went on to tie the franchise best start of last season with a 6-0 start, losing by a point to the Gryphons, then getting back on track with a big win over the Clash.

The Paladins feature a bevy of talent featuring Kodie Cabotage, the leagues MVP 5 times over who led the Lava to the past 4 championship titles and is adjusting to his new team role. Veteran Mauricio Wolcott who also won 2 League MVP awards early on, recruited back to the team after a stint w/ the Rhinos and a rejuvenated offensive game. Veteran Boyd Brunson who is the Paladins all-time leading scorer and last seasons League Tournament MVP and All-Star Volker Knobell with a young Chitrarath Rotenberry holding down the Center responsibilities.

The Ice landed a huge addition in the young Torry Hum who had been a defensive wizard and also led the Warriors in scoring the previous 2 seasons. They returned the teams leading scorer from last season Avertano Traster with 2-time all-star, one of the leagues best and the Franchises best passer Kevan Palifka running the Offense. They installed 8th season veteran Bridgely Macpaden into his first full-time starting role at center and has found his niche as a paint commander leading the league with 14.5rpg.

While both teams boast solid defenses, the Ice have taken things a step further making defense their central focus and the strategy has worked wonders. The team leads the league in defense and is on pace to allow just over 90ppg which would shatter the franchise record of 95ppg in season 7 where the team made the playoffs for the first time ever. Meanwhile the Paladins have installed a quick strike offense which has them leading the league with 119ppg with a +19ppg differential.

Somethings got to give as League I's juggernauts go at it head-to-head for the first of two showdowns this season.

  • Paladins Face Tough Matchup vs Romans

History has been on the side of the Paladins in their matchups with the Romans as they hold a 15-2 advantage. The Paladins come in undefeated at 5-0 while the Romans are 3-2 coming off a loss to a very tough Gryphons team.

A resurgent Mauricio Wolcott leads the Paladins with 31ppg while Kodie Cabotage comes in with a 23.2ppg avg. Chitrarath Rotenberry has done well in his first season as a starter scoring 18ppg with 12rpg.

For the Romans, they are led by Tapas Feye who is having a resurgence of his own with just under 30ppg. Bandi Brunback and Osbaldo Hockell aare over 21ppg while Osbaldo Hockell pulls in 13.2rpg. Jubal Hodcroft is one of the top dishers in the game with 9.6 assists per outing.

Chitrarath Rotenberry scored 19 with 16 boards for his 4th double-double of the season. The team was sloppy with 19 turnovers, but where counted was the rebounding battle which they won 46-33.

  • Paladins Press on to 3-0 Beating Asteroids

The Paladins faced a tougher opponent in the Asteroids and came away w/ a 124-109 win in another offensive display. Kodie Cabotage had his finest game of the season scoring 29 with 14 boards while Chitrarath Rotenberry registered his 3rd double-double with 20 points and 10 boards. The team will face a tough Dragons team in their next outting.

  • Words from Paladins Coach/GM Kingpin

"It's a new wind in League I. If we are able to do what we did last season... plus keep our guys healthy... plus have the League's best player ever (Kodie Cabotage) to lead the charge, plus get back Wolcott (Mauricio Wolcott) to shore up the leadership, the skys the limit for the Paladins. We have only one goal. And thats another ring for the Sky blue and Black."

  • Opening Night Takeaways

Aaron Arkell is a winner, no matter where he plays. Does that justify the #1 ranking? Probably not, but it looks like the Spirit have a playoff caliber team despite the youth.

Mauricio Wolcott is happy to be "home" and is the best player with over 10 seasons of experience. His 36 points led the league on opening night and the 8-time all-star added 10 assists, 5 boards with just 1 turnover in the Paladins win.

The Bolts are gonna have a tough first half to the season. With Gladville Verdino the first major casualty missing 16-24 games, glib times ahead for the team who had a franchise worst 11 wins last season. Here's to hoping #2 pick Milap Hanners can step in to do some damage control.

Torry Hum is as good as advertised. Two time All-Defensive player Hum displayed his lockdown D while also leading the Ice offense with 34 points on 25 shots. The Ice haven't had an offensive threat of his caliber probably 6 seasons. The Ice just may have found the missing piece to end the playoff drought of 8 seasons.

Osbaldo Hockell just may be worth his $28 mil tag that the Romans paid. The All-League Selections new team will lean on him to dig out from their worst ever 16 win season and he didnt' disappoint in the debut. He played 41 minutes to score 29 points with 14 boards, putting a stamp on the league as one of the best at the center position.

The jury is still out for the Lava. The team looked less than impressive post-Kodie/Aiken. The Paladin transplant data looked good, but the team as a whole looked sloppy. Wouldn't put a fork in them just yet as far as missing the playoffs for the first time ever.

The Spikers are who we thought they were. After a close to franchise worst, 13 wins last season and no draft picks to show for it... the Spikers earned a Power Ranking of last. And they look to have deserved it scoring a league low 82 points while shooting 37% from the floor and fumbling the ball 22 times. Gonna be a very long season indeed.

Despite their bad luck in the draft, there are signs of hope for the Razors. The team had nearly a 1 in 3 chance of winning the top pick, and probably 50% chance of winning the top 2 picks and probably 75% chance of winning a top 3 pick. However they lucked up and got the 6th pick... and the 7th pick... and the 11th pick. However those first two picks may just work out. The guards both scored over 20 points in the debut win with Kadir Jacquot scoring 31 and Matyas Vilandre scoring 20 after a solid preseason to lead the Razors to a win. It won't take much to improve on a franchise record low 9 wins, but it seems it will rely on the rookies having a big impact... especially after the team committed 23 turnovers.

Mauricio Wolcott scored 31 with 7 assists as the Paladins won 106-91.

  • Paladins snatch game one

The usual suspects led the way in game 1 for the Paladins 110-100 over the Pitbulls. Mauricio Wolcott led the way with 29 points and 9 boards while Darius Aldape scored 17 with 11 assists. Tawa Wilsdon posted 9 boards and 16 points. The Paladins now lead the series 1-0, and more bad news for the Pitbulls, the winner of game 1 has won 12 of the last 15 series when they win the first game. The team heads to Pitbulls land for game 2.

Oddly the road team proved to win every game in the series. The Paladins move on to face the Romans, a team the Paladins have beaten in all 3 career matches.

  • Mauricio Wolcott named Team MVP

Congratulations to Mauricio Wolcott on winning the Paladins Team MVP award for Season 20.

  • Paladins cruise past Pitbulls in must win game

  • Gryphons squeak by Paladins

For the first time in 6 seasons, the Gryphons have won their first 2 games to open the season. The last time that happened, they went on to a 32-13 record. Don't expect anything like that this season, but it counts for a huge step in the right direction for the team that has been struggling tremendously season after season.
