In With the New
The #2 seed Asteroids face the #8 seed Venom for the League I title. The Asteroids are attempting to win their first title after last seasons disappointing sweeping by the eventual champion Lava in the 2nd round as a #4 seed.
Though the Asteroids are the favorite and have beaten the Venom in their two matches this season, the Venom have been playing fantastic basketball and are attempting to become the first bottom seed to win a title en route to a 3rd franchise championship. They are just the 3rd bottom seed to even make it to the championship series (Pitbulls L1, Crushers L3).
Both teams sport relatively young squads... the Asteroids even moreso. Last seasons Future Stars MVP and rookie of the season "Mr. Do Everything" Hamzah Barlass looks as if he'll be a perennial All-Star and leads the way for the team with 4th season player and former Future Stars Game MVP Hanson Shelper as his right hand posting 23.5ppg during the season. All-Star and Defensive Player of the Season, center Alek Bonyai has given offenses fits all season while posting a career best 17.6ppg while leading the league with 12.8rpg. He's coming off a 29 point, 19 rebound effort in the previous outting.
For the Venom, this seasons rookie of the season and All-Star Radnor Crookston has been dominant himself with 15.5ppg and 11.3rpg at center. The veteran and 4 Time League champion himself Aiken Freemantle leads the way after another solid All-Star season.
Whichever team does win the title, it will be ushering in a new era as the Lava, Pitbulls and Paladins have won the last 8 championships (Lava won 5).
