  • Opening Night Takeaways

Aaron Arkell is a winner, no matter where he plays. Does that justify the #1 ranking? Probably not, but it looks like the Spirit have a playoff caliber team despite the youth.

Mauricio Wolcott is happy to be "home" and is the best player with over 10 seasons of experience. His 36 points led the league on opening night and the 8-time all-star added 10 assists, 5 boards with just 1 turnover in the Paladins win.

The Bolts are gonna have a tough first half to the season. With Gladville Verdino the first major casualty missing 16-24 games, glib times ahead for the team who had a franchise worst 11 wins last season. Here's to hoping #2 pick Milap Hanners can step in to do some damage control.

Torry Hum is as good as advertised. Two time All-Defensive player Hum displayed his lockdown D while also leading the Ice offense with 34 points on 25 shots. The Ice haven't had an offensive threat of his caliber probably 6 seasons. The Ice just may have found the missing piece to end the playoff drought of 8 seasons.

Osbaldo Hockell just may be worth his $28 mil tag that the Romans paid. The All-League Selections new team will lean on him to dig out from their worst ever 16 win season and he didnt' disappoint in the debut. He played 41 minutes to score 29 points with 14 boards, putting a stamp on the league as one of the best at the center position.

The jury is still out for the Lava. The team looked less than impressive post-Kodie/Aiken. The Paladin transplant data looked good, but the team as a whole looked sloppy. Wouldn't put a fork in them just yet as far as missing the playoffs for the first time ever.

The Spikers are who we thought they were. After a close to franchise worst, 13 wins last season and no draft picks to show for it... the Spikers earned a Power Ranking of last. And they look to have deserved it scoring a league low 82 points while shooting 37% from the floor and fumbling the ball 22 times. Gonna be a very long season indeed.

Despite their bad luck in the draft, there are signs of hope for the Razors. The team had nearly a 1 in 3 chance of winning the top pick, and probably 50% chance of winning the top 2 picks and probably 75% chance of winning a top 3 pick. However they lucked up and got the 6th pick... and the 7th pick... and the 11th pick. However those first two picks may just work out. The guards both scored over 20 points in the debut win with Kadir Jacquot scoring 31 and Matyas Vilandre scoring 20 after a solid preseason to lead the Razors to a win. It won't take much to improve on a franchise record low 9 wins, but it seems it will rely on the rookies having a big impact... especially after the team committed 23 turnovers.
